  •  And the President welcomes the "debate" to come (12+ / 0-)

    or perhaps not.....

The U.S. government, its friends, and its foes can no longer plausibly deny the dark side of U.S. foreign policy and will have to address it head-on.
I don't even know the names of all the countries, but there is probably not one of them that does not have US bases and troops in their country.

Perhaps if any of those 35 countries protest too much, the President will just threaten to withdraw our troops and close our military bases.

Which if he actually did it, in my opinion, not a bad thing.

Close down those foreign bases stretched around the globe, bring our troops home, and the Pentagon can stop complaining about lack of funds to train troops.

570,000 current troops don't count, it seems, as the Pentagon fears the lack of capability to fight 2 wars at a time.

Has the US made so many enemies that the goal of the Pentagon is to be always combat ready to fight 2 or possibly more wars at the same time?

For every soldier coming home from Afghanistan in a box to Dover Mortuary, "God bless the cause for which he died."

neolibs and Pnac folks will have a cow if a whiff of closing bases came about.

It seems that all my life we have been bombing someone, teaching them a lesson. Every day I understand more deeply how violent we are. Violent to others and violent to ourselves. - Robert Olmstead
