By putting Sanders on the committee he guaranteed a real ideological counter balance to Ryan, and a very strong one. He, of all politicians, comes closest for me to my ideal.

I listen to him on the Thom Hartmann show all the time, and have for years. I am amazed by his combination of courtly civility yet undeniable fierceness, and the patience of a saint to repeat it over and over again as if it was the first time he said it.

And he knows how to bob and weave. Although he's a self proclaimed Democratic socialist, he's come under an AMAZING lack of fire from the right, all things considered. Always makes me scratch my head with wonder.

But I think it's this combination in him of his intelligence and civility, but yet his entirely DOGGED and passionate pursuit of what he believes in, with, when he deems it necessary, the pragmatism of a politician, rather than an ideologue.

Love me some Bernie, was so happy to hear he'd sit on this committee. I think some Democrats miss the significance of this, but imo, this is Reid knowing he has the advantage and bringing one of our best generals to the fore.
