Speaking in Iowa in the last few days, Cruz claimed that every "strong Republican" who ran for the presidency in the last 40 years won.  Since people just love strong Republicans.  So running as some wishy-washy  "moderate Republican" is doomed to failure.

Uhh, has this guy been in a padded cell for the last 40 years?  Some, or most, or all of those supposedly "strong Republicans" LIED about who they were and what their beliefs were and how they would govern.  Reagan, anyone?  Wuvable, cutesy, make-you-want-to-vomit Reagan playacting at being "jes folks" while doing everything he could to hurt the poor, etc., etc.?  George W. Bush inventing an entirely new species, the "compassionate Conservative" to trick the dumb and the ignorant in the electorate and then governing as the evil right-wing extremist pig he actually was?

Anyway, please be cheered that reports from his speech before an "audience of about 600 at the Republican Party of Iowa's annual Ronald Reagan fundraising dinner" make clear that Cruz understands that being a moderate Republican is a losing strategy for winning the White House.

And his pals at the dinner agree.  "The chairman of the Iowa GOP, A.J. Spiker, told the audience that conservatives at the right-most side of the spectrum aren't budging.  Those in the 'permanent political establishment' who say it's necessary to water down the GOP message to try to win elections, Spiker said, won't succeed."
