...have both in 2016! The GOP brand has been so damaged it needs to cut out the tea-baggers and rebuild. Cruz and Paul would joust for the Tea Party nomination (the winner offering the other veep) while Christie would appeal to anyone resembling moderate Republicans (moderate GOP governor: one who does not advocate forced transvaginal ultra-sounds - when the Legislaure is controlled by the other party - but refuses to assign tax dollars toward women's health).

Christie can veto the outlawing of .50-cal. sniper rifles and gay marriage all he wants, but he has committed the Ultimate Sin amongst the tea-baggers: he touched Barack Hussein Obama in an inappropriate manner by not leaving a mark on him during the post-Sandy visit. I'm not even sure executing all people of color on Death Row will redeem him with that crowd.

Before we all start replying how none of this will happen, I used the word may. If an obvious split occurs the way I've described, the GOP risks losing the big money laying in the Darkness. Maybe someone or something GOP will feel their own personal agenda or profit is being cock-blocked by the tea-baggers enough to do something about it, using available assets to permanently remove the obstacle, legally, semi-legally, extra-legally, or all-of-the-above.

If it doesn't happen, 2016 will probably still be a Democratic lock, because the GOP will continue to lose its moderates through attrition: death, sanity, self-interest. It also means the ever-shrinking base will become more rabid with the passage of time, but I don't know what the equivalent to Fort Sumter will be.
