  •  Long story short... (5+ / 0-)

...TRADITIONAL DEMOCRATS are New Keynesians; NEW DEMOCRATS and REAGAN DEMOCRATS are neoliberal Keynesians, or NeoKeynesians, as far as their economic (trickle-down) thinking's concerned.

Then again, the majority of this community, nowadays, tends to ignore the economic aspects of our present-day political realities, preferring instead to put blinders on and focus exclusively upon the social issues. (That's a story for another time, except when it's conflated in the mindset of many here, that overlook this inconvenient TRUTH.)

because that's where we win. It's really kind of astounding, if you look at it from the perspective of 10 years ago, how many states now recognize same sex marriage.

Unfortunately most Americans uncritically accept the idea that socialism is the enemy of economic growth, even as they realize that Social Security and Medicare are vital programs that we cannot live without. The idea that government is incompetent at almost everything is still very strong. Changing that presents a major chicken-and-egg problem: We have to elect traditional Democrats who can enact policies that benefit the poor and middle class, but without such policies in place the poor and middle class are not motivated to vote for traditional Democrats, and the folks in office are mostly kind of useless in terms of being willing to spend tax money to benefit people.

because they are not willing to put forth the proposals for what we need on economic issues. In terms of economic issues, their goal is to preserve the status quo, with perhaps marginal improvements to prevent civil unrest (and they're not doing a very good job on that).

This is accepted because there is no party that puts out a message that fights against it. And no, "We're going to have to cut your SS now to preserve it for your kids" does not count.

Banking on the American people to be able to sort all this out and declare the adult in the room the winner is a very big bet. -Digby

While you dream of Utopia, we're here on Earth, getting things done.
