my father always said that in election years the Republicans and Democracts knew how many votes they could expect, that is why both parties basically campaigned towards the 'independents' per Kos (nowadays mostly conservatives TOO embarrassed to say they are republicans), is this considered a 'blanket assumption?'
Sorry Kos, I feel that there are a great many die hard independents that can think for themselves and not stick to any party line, be it Repub or Demos.
In other words 'we' vote with our heads and not with our hearts.
So you democrats don't need the independents any more?
Are the independents too iffy?? don't know where any us stand on an issue?
Just because I don't have a affiliation with either party doesn't mean we should be brushed aside, or pushed away as a non factor.
Maybe I've been looking at this site too long, I thought 'all were welcomed' I guess not. If you don't tow the party line get the hell gone.
This isn't the first time I've had to defend myself as being an independent,on this site, but it will be my last.

We need independents like Bernie Sanders and like you and others.

I think Markos is complaining about the Democratic Party's mistaken belief that Independent=Centrist and so chasing an ever-moving center for votes. If we stay on message--a message of economic populism and pragmatic liberalism--and keep to that message when elected, we can bring enough independents with us.

    •  Well said misschris (0+ / 0-)

I haven't posted here in a long time. As an Independent since the mid 90's it got really old being slammed on this site regularly.  See comments in this thread for evidence.
Your post sums up my "independence" quit well. Thanks.
And just for the record , I have never been registered Republican. Was registered Dem before going Independent.

Thank you for your comment, sometimes I feel that no one really knows what independents are all about. Also to tell you the truth, my above comment took me several tries, since I'm very outspoken, and the people who know me, tell me to 'take a breath' before I do 'battle'. Sometimes it works, most times not. It took alot of breathing for this one.
