    We had to be there at 5:30 am and stay until all the machines were counted and results posted - about 11:00 pm in our case.  We could not leave the building for lunch or any other reason, although there was a break room where we could eat any food we had brought with us.  In addition, we had to attend a training session prior to election day.  We were paid the grand sum of $100.  This is not a job people take lightly or do for the money.  Everyone I met was there because they believe in the democratic process and wanted to help make it work.
