    that won the last election? Sounds like they (the state government) doesn't even pretend to want free and fair elections--the only reason for such a rule is to ensure preservation of the status quo. I don't know if Republicans came up with that or if it's an older artifact of the Lyndon Johnson era, but there's no rational, unbiased reason for such a rule.

      ... that won the precinct in the last gubernatorial election. If your precinct (or the combined precincts) went for Bill White, your election judge will be a Democrat.

      SUBCHAPTER A. APPOINTMENT OF ELECTION JUDGES

      Sec. 32.002(c)..The commissioners court shall appoint the first person meeting the applicable eligibility requirements from the list submitted in compliance with this subsection by the party with the highest number of votes in the precinct as the presiding judge and the first person meeting the applicable eligibility requirements from the list submitted in compliance with this subsection by the party with the second highest number of votes in the precinct as the alternate presiding judge....

      I, for one, have no problem being led by a 3500 year old Pharaoh who was trained by space aliens on a distant star.
