        The troubling thing about the term "white trash", like the term "white slavery", is that it implies that such a status is common for other races, but an exception to the rule for white people.  White trash, as opposed to normal, common black trash.  White slavery, as opposed to normal, acceptable black slavery.  

         On the other hand, even though the term does have that literal implication, I don't think that most people who use it have any malicious or bigoted intent.  So I thought it was kind of self-righteous and pretentious when Donald Trump fired someone from"the Apprentice" for using the term as a self-reference.    And I can still laugh at things like Jay Leno's "Fix it the White Trash Way" segments without feeling offended.  

         But I do hope that our society will eventually evolve past the use of that term.

      i never thought of it that way... but you are right.

      sure I understand that in some contexts it does not seem to be used with malicious or bigoted intent.

      but i also hope we will eventually evolve past the use of the term.
