You're right--I didn't think to check the profile.

But I did say that if the diarist is Peter Schorsch, he needs to indicate that clearly, so that readers are aware he is legitimately reproducing his own work.

I've observed many diarists clearly state that their diary is their work, previously published at (wherever).

SPB blog posts have been cross-posted here since 2009. It keeps the same name and has that info in the sig. Seems pretty clear to me.

Disclaimer: If the above comment can possibly be construed as snark, it probably is.

Grubber, are you thinking that the only people who will ever read this diary are the ones who are already well-acquainted with the writer? That no one new to DailyKos would choose this diary to read? That no one will read it after doing a search, or because it was forwarded by a friend?

I wouldn't assume that any writer here is only read by a long-time faithful following, and no one else.

      Welcome Peter Schorsch!
As you can tell, several of us were about to protect your intellectual property rights from.. uh ...you.

If I ran this circus, things would be DIFFERENT!

Protecting intellectual property matters, not just to any one writer, but to all.

Writers can publish their work in as many places as they care to, but they aid the cause of protecting intellectual property when they make it clear that it is one writer choosing more than one place to publish a single work.

This help readers and other potential diarists understand what is okay and what is not. Not everyone knows this.

Many diarists say, right upfront, that they previously published this work elsewhere. I think that's a good idea. Clarity is more effective than leaving it to the reader's devices to search for more information about authorship.

That clarity helps re-inforce the basic message of protecting copyright: you can freely publish your own work anywhere, but you cannot do that with anybody else's work.

This was a good article, and it is one that all too many people would be proud to steal. Let's discourage that.

Fair Use, as practiced here, is three paragraphs.
When I clicked through and found the exact same text, I figured it was a rip. But because the author is the same....
