Kansas is at least worth a fighting effort.. remember, we've had quite a few Kansas Democratic governors (Sebellius being the most recent).. then that is all we can ask :)

If nothing else, people.. a close race forces the Kochs and others to spend their money in their own home state, whic leaves less to go elsewhere.

Can somebody give me the 30 second version of how Brownback became so unpopular?

Cake or DEATH? Oh, I'll have cake, please.

When Brownback came in he campaigned that the state was in a disaster (it really wasn't) and then proceeded with a set of fairly drastic changes.

The first.. and the one that is really killing Brownback and has all year is this one:

        http://cjonline.com/...

Kansas cut education b double digits.  Sebellius had begun a program by which smaller school districts were told to unify.. which isn't a bad idea.   But Brownback came in and school closings became the rule.  In major metros, school funding has been cut so hard that many elementary and middle schools with good attendance are gone.. and more cuts may be on the horizon.  In rural areas this has some impact.. kids bus farther.   But it's the metros, Wichita, Kansas City, Topeka that are really feeling the pinch.   These areas, which traditionally vote (D) tend to have.. poor to 'eh' voter turnout especially in off-year elections.  But more and more parents find their kids bussing to a school farther away in those cities, and the fury over it has real teeth.

Kansas teachers and others have come out swinging.

Add to that things like sending out government prayers for 'Spiritually Dark' areas of the state

An Anti-Abortion bill that allows biological grandparents and fathers to potentially sue for emotional damages, a two-track voting system..

Lets just say there are a lot of Kansans, even conservative ones who realize that all this is doing is tying us up in court repeatedly with money the state doesn't have to fight lawsuits we are unlikely to win.

Brownback's popularity after the move on women's rights this spring fell to 29%.. and after that, in 6 straight polls month after month, it has never broken 35%.  It's not that Kansas isn't in the (R) on that column, but there are a lot of anti-abortion advocates who also worry about the governmental reach.

    •  Brownback.. Ewww! (0+ / 0-)

Ten pounds of suck in a one pound bag.  I had given up on Kansas years ago but this is good news!  Go Kansas!  You can do better (much better).

Yet another right winger who married an heiress to whom he owes his current standing in the game of life to.   Played musical religions until he found the real rainmaker where he could hit the right wing sweet spot of fundamentalist piety, raging patriotic fervor, sprinkled with a crunch layer of a right wing blend of homophobia and reproductive rights misogyny.
