Doug Gansler's been a very fine AG for Maryland. He's especially strong on environmental issues, and he's very well-regarded in the state, way outperforming Gov. O'Malley in the last statewide election.

Smart, accomplished people can make bad decisions sometimes (ask Bill Clinton), but the media circus over this house party is WAY over the top. Doug Gansler's not my first choice for governor right now (which has nothing to do with the house party -- it's more about his succumbing to Republican frames over job creation strategies), but he's been great for this state in his AG capacity, would make a fine governor, and to see the destruction of a solid public servant over such a silly, trumped-up episode is sad.  He hasn't handled the fallout well, but why should there be fallout to begin with?

      lower corporate taxes.

Don't forget that the house party story is coming on top of the story about making the state troopers play fast and loose with traffic laws for his convenience.  He is creating an image of someone who thinks he is above or outside the law.

You fell victim to one of the classic blunders, the most famous of which is "Never get involved in a land war in Asia".

is over the top, imho.  How old are his son & friends?  This country is so prudish over so many things.  In many countries the drinking age is 16 and the driving age is 18.  Not to mention a Janet Jackson nipple is shown on tv for 2 seconds and everyone has a fit.  Time to get real America!

      •  Um, when you're the AG, laws are laws (0+ / 0-)

and teenage binge-drinking parties are a wee bit different from the occasional sip of wine or beer. It's too bad if this incident damages someone who would otherwise make a good governor, but to me it is an exercise of extremely poor judgment, and the attempt to justify and minimize it (by lying when necessary) doesn't reflect well on him.

and I do admit I don't know the full facts of this case, and he's the top law enforcement official of the state of Maryland, I get all that; I'm just speaking in general terms of American society and the latest outrage and media storm and all that entails.  I just don't get worked up about it; if Miley wants to twerk, twerk it; if Miss Jackson wants to flip a nip, flip it; If kids want to drink before they're 21, bottoms up.  As the AG and gubernatorial candidate, I will submit he used poor judgment.

To be fair, Gansler was the only person on the ballot in 2010, so he was bound to overperform O'Malley.
