  •  Ted Rall is a public figure... (5+ / 0-)

    That's why.

    •  So's Barack Obama, and yet I've seen people (9+ / 0-)

HR'd for insults to a public figure who's also an elected official representing us -- something Ted Rall isn't charged to do. I guess then you would agree that insults to the president are fair game?

      Rhetorical question, of course.

    •  But he's also a Kossack that engages (10+ / 0-)

in the comment sections of his diaries.

What's the threshold for determining whether or not a kossack who's also a public figure is enough of the latter to be deemed "safe for insulting?"

That he at least responses to comments in his diaries seems to me to be enough to afford him the same treatment as the rest of us expect.

      •  Ah, gotta love those moving targets. (9+ / 0-)

First Rall was a troll because he was an impostor.  Then he was a troll because he was too high and mighty a celebrity to respond to comments.  (So much for his being an impostor, I guess.)  Now he's a troll because he responds to comments, or, more pertinently, because he breathes. :-)

      •  Well... (6+ / 0-)

Rall's posts are entirely cross-posts from his own site, and the only diaries he engages in are his own.

If he wasn't a public figure, nobody would give a shit about his diaries in the first place.

He's hardly an active member of the community... more like a glorified spammer.

        •  Then you and anyone else are free to ignore him (7+ / 0-)

and his glorified spam. Nobody's forcing anyone to read the diaries of people he disagrees with. And lots of "public figures" who do diaries that I've seen here, who don't participate in any other diary besides their own. Not sure what your point is, then. You don't like Ted Rall. We get it.

        •  Many diarists cross-post (10+ / 0-)

Markos himself days he doesn't care if people do that, so I'm not entirely sure how that's a mark against him.

And you're saying that the only reason people pay attention to his diaries is because he's a public figure. I guess that explains why so many other diarists here are not public figures, yet, over time, have developed a substantial fanbase.

Just because you don't like him doesn't mean that others don't, or won't in the future.

He's published 19 diaries in the 20 days he's been here on this site. One diary per day on average.

It's good to know that for all the changes Markos has implemented in order to make it easy for new users to quickly and effortlessly participate here, and deluge of real spam that's been the unfortunate side effect of those changes, those who don't pass a purity test will just end-up being discarded as nothing but "glorified spam."

I wonder if that's what Markos had in mind.

From a front pager is amazing.   It's more than obvious the site is dying,  even Markos tacitly admits this with his policies that make it easier for new users to post.

So a nationally syndicated   columnist  creates an account to bring more eyeballs here.   And what do multiple front pagers do?

Treat him like a run of the mill troll and try to run him off.   You should rent the movie Beer Money.

This is so pathetic.   Business wise,  it's suicidal.   If I were Markos,  I would have a talk with my staff.

in order to "bring more eyeballs here." Nobody should complain that he uses GOP frames because he is international. He should be allowed to do and say anything because he is famous and we should all be honored that he wants to bring more readers to dKos as opposed to those who post here to bring more eyeballs to their own site.
