When Jonathan Gordon was asked pointedly in one of his meetings that he holds in the back room of the local fish market in Vallejo, "What about the Democratic Platform? Doesn't it specifically support gay rights?" Gordon was at a loss, and said "I don't know," even though he had a copy of it in his hand and had passed it out to the membership as proof that he was dedicated to democratic principles. Someone in the group had to actually READ IT ALOUD.

The truth is that Gordon and his cohorts pushing this unvetted and unqualified candidate have NEVER cared about whether he was on one side or the other, whether he cared about this or that, whether he was anti-gay, anti-choice or anything.

The people in the endorsement committee say they were given very limited access and when two persons tried to ask questions of the Pastor, that he evaded their questions and never gave them a satisfactory answer.

All of this now is because they have been forced to account for themselves and they now face a very uneasy electorate. There was NEVER an attempt to actually find a proven candidate who exhibited these characteristics. Instead they went looking for a candidate who measured up to a litmus test of whether he was malleable and would give them the power to control him once elected. This is the exact antithesis of democracy.

Now that people have brought this up, Summers is even changing the verbiage on his website to include statements which contradict his earlier statements such as his questionnaire for endorsement.

As a black man in America, Tony understands what discrimination feels like, personally. Many groups have taken the brunt of a general, unwarranted judgement (sic). As a Pastor, his faith prescribes that he form no judgement (sic), lest he be judged. Tony absolutely and unequivocally condemns discrimination of any person, in any form, for any reason.

Likewise, Tony believes the question of choice is exactly that – an individual choice. It is personal, private, and not a matter for the government to determine. It is not something the office of the Vallejo City Council deals with, and our Council’s local challenges are certainly a full plate. And while abortion is not a path he would personally endorse, the personal right to choice is something Tony absolutely supports.

I'm now tempted to HR the tip jar.  This kind of disingenuousness should'nt be left without an appropriate rating.

I can't believe some of the people who uprated this crap.

There is a critical difference between feeling discriminated against because you're disagreed with and being discriminated against because of who you are.

I looked at the list of people who tipped, and it includes users who I know would not support this kind of candidate.  Maybe they didn't read closely enough.
