consider myself lucky, as I only had a $1.00 cut in my stamps per month, but my friends lost about $25.00 each a month. Fox news helped of course, I understand a few weeks back they got some guy who admitted he was on food stamps and eating steak and caviar and whatever else, so they used this scenario to argue their point home.

husband, who was on SSDI, did--and at the maximum level for a single man on disability.

I bought the steaks and caviar though: inexpensive but tasty cuts which in New England are often called "Delmonico" steaks at about three bucks a piece and ersatz "German" (lumpfish) caviar at 2.99 a jar. It's good on baked Maine potatoes.

Even when my husband lived by himself he spent his money wisely and ate fresh, healthy food. Isn't that the point of the program? So he went to Trader Joe's. Poor people aren't allowed to shop there?

The GOP's position on this is highly distasteful to me. It would disgust my late husband, who like many working poor and permanently disabled, was actually college educated. He knew better.

that stem from believing in the mythical US Govt household budget analogy.  If you believe the US Govt can run out of its own currency, then you might support cutting spending to "be responsible".  When in reality, the only responsible budget position for the dollar issuer to have, is to make sure there is enough money circulating in the economy to maintain full employment and maximum productivity of our national labor.  When the Govt restricts the supply of money by cutting spending and raising taxes, unemployment is always the result.
