the movie wasn't about eugenics or abortion, it was about engineering designer babies by restructuring DNA at the zygote stage.  (Honestly, I don't know why they even bothered with the whole in utero part of the process... I thought that was a major plot hole.  But they didn't consult me.)

BUT, in the movie there was no law against trusting the natural reproductive process, nor was there any law that mandated termination of a pregnancy under any circumstances.

In other words, Paul was cherry picking as well as plagiarizing.  What a guy.

I'll believe corporations are people when one comes home from Afghanistan in a body bag.

Okay, so part of the plot is how horrible it is that this guy wants to be an astronaut but knows he has a heart defect (presumably unfixable by surgery, otherwise wouldn't they have done something about it?) and isn't allowed to. Now, unless in the future they've managed to massively decrease the amount of g-force felt on liftoff the guy should in no way be trying to go into space with a heart defect. Hell, he probably shouldn't get on a roller coaster. And that's before the possibility of a heart failure and medical emergency while in space. This is a one-year mission we're talking about here.

In addition, the use of the term "valid" is stupid, the idea that you can tell everything about a person just by DNA analysis is stupid, and there's already all sorts of discrimination going on in the world without using a DNA sequence. Gattaca is a stupid person's idea of what a smart movie is like.

Frankly, if I had to choose between watching Gattaca again and re-reading Heinlein's Beyond This Horizon, I'd take the book any day.
