We are entering a period of abundance made possible by these technologies. We just have to get past two obstacles, and then we can move on to refinements.

The first obstacle has to do with sustainability. We have to reinvent chemistry, manufacturing, energy production, food production, water use and transportation to take into account resource depletion and unwanted impacts from polution and habitat disruption.

The second obstacle is overcoming our stubborness around distributioin. We simply must figure out how to distribute goods, services, opportunies, and justice equitably. A significant challenge, but we are up to it.

These two obstacles are difficult, but surmountable. After all, they ammount to existential challenges for humanity. Such challenges concentrate the mind and will bring forth the willl and the way to prevail. I had coffee today. Otherwise I might not be so optimistic!

The base price of all of this will be greatly increased, perhaps unsustainably, by out new position on the downside of global peak oil. Forget transportation: think of the impact on petrochemicals/polymers.

We are the principled ones, remember? We don't get to use the black hats' tricks even when it would benefit us. Political Compass: -6.88, -6.41
