    Using your example, let's say there is also a 30-year-old couple, who have a very slim chance of needing treatment for heart disease, strokes, Alzheimers, renal failure.  And they don't want to have to pay anything to support people who are more prone to getting that.  Fair?

    But with these younger people in the pool also buying insurance, they will balance out the specific age-related needs of the above 60-year-old couple.  

    •  And they will also be prepared when they suddenly (1+ / 0-)

      do have an issue, like my son who had appendicitis, and then had complications when he was under 25, and had a blank look on his face about how it was all going to be paid for, and nothing to say before except "This is not supposed to happen to me."  which he didn't think about until after it was all over, and he was staring at the biiiig bill. . Or a lady friend the same age who needed gyn, suddenly.
