  •  I don't really see why (5+ / 0-)

the Boy Scouts were affiliated with the churches to begin with. This is one of the problems with the Boy Scouts. It would be better as an independent organization without such affiliation. The Girl Scouts don't feel the need to be church-related; I don't see why the Boy Scouts do.

    •  We're all just looking for a place to meet. (3+ / 0-)

When the secular groups decided to work on city governments to push out scout groups, individual BSA troops went to local churches to find sponsoring organizations that could provide a place to meet.
Most of these affiliations are not necessarily because the scouts are members of the church.
Our troop has 50 to 60 boys, plus leaders and parents. You cannot meet at someone's house with that many people. And although lots of city's have community centers, most troops cannot afford to pay $100 or more per meeting.
So we find a friendly church and do community service for them several times a year in exchange for a meeting place.

The road to excess leads to the palace of Wisdom, I must not have excessed enough
