  •  Line Item Veto (0+ / 0-)

I'm neither supporting or not supporting the concept of the line item veto but I think it's been a long time since there's been talk about this.

If I remember correctly, the issue was brought up in President Bush's second term (?) and Bush may have been in support of it but the Line Item Veto never got passed through Congress.

I wonder if this would be a good thing if say we're applying it in the context of President Obama's second term or any future presidents.

for Presidents. I'm not sure how I feel about it for governors.

The problem with the line-item veto is that a future Republican president could veto any parts of a budget that they don't like (which would probably be environmental and social programs). Also, it adds a legislative power to the President, who is supposed to be the executive. Let Congress do the legislating. The President should have to either sign or veto the entire bill.
