in Kern county where a lot of covert fracking seems to've gone on for quite some time now, it looks like basically congressman Kevin McCarthy & his fossil-fuel friends vs the Center on Race, Poverty & the Environment.

the recent fracking 'conference' (all pro-fracking, as near as i can tell) here heavily emphasized the jobs more fracking would bring to the county, and the locals seem to buy the idea that the jobs will go to local folks and that makes fracking a good thing, even 'tho the history has extensively been that most of these kinds of jobs have gone to up-to-date experienced out-of-staters hired from Texas etc who move here.

last i saw of the frack-free-zone petitions for this county and its cities, there weren't a lot of signatures.

as a health-handicapped person among many in this area (in the 1990's the Calif Dept of Finance tracking showed this county the worst per capita for health issues & disease clusters) with environmental illness among my problems & the total severe enough that i'm 95% housebound, i find it constantly astounding that a county full of parents with asthmatic and atopic-illness kids and elders still buys the lies.

there seems to be difficulty about local progressive organizations coordinating their action schedules to combine power for mutual support on all the issues here that really need an ongoing concerted effort.  but i have to give them credit that they still keep on keeping on.
