    ..large amounts of time in Central America and Colombia. The poverty there is shocking to people who have never seen it. But they rarely get to see it. The canned-tours and cruises don't allow it.

    I've never felt so helpless in my life when I was presented a child who was suffering from malaria and could not get the government to give a shit about the conditions in the "coffee camps".

    I have friend from Mississippi. He tells me the blacks in small farm towns there are worse off than the peones in Nicaragua. At least they have a little bit of government support. The people in rural Alabama and Mississippi do not.
