They (liberals) have to defend it, protect it, and fix it as necessary not just because of the people who will be hurt if it fails, but because if it fails the burden of that failure will be placed on them. The people whose suffering the ACA was intended to address via HCR would then be even more screwed than ever, and reform would be harder and not easier. If the ACA shits the bed it would then be even harder to address the pains and sufferings of those who were screwed before the ACA and would then be screwed by a systemic collapse or policy implosion of a post-ACA collapse America. They have to reform it when it breaks down, fix it when it hits a pothole, and they have to do it all the while having "we tried liberalism, and it failed" thrown in their faces when they try to get more progressive fixes in place to deal with the inevitable rightwing flaws in the whole.
Sorry if things are a jumble sometimes.

I've been having a hard time going from the high of the shutdown win to the ACA roll out rake to the face.

The incompetence dodges framed as being advocacy for the ACA bothers me. The hippy punching to bookend the incompetence dodges bothers me. The "Chill the Fuck Out, I Got this" coming back to haunt us is galling.

    But we own this.

We have to make it work.

Ted Rall has the luxury of not giving a shit about the Democratic Party owning an ACA implosion, because he's not a Democrat and has made it a part of his brand to argue that the two parties are very much the same.

I don't have that luxury. I'm as cynical as a DFH can get and still stay a Democrat, but I'm still a Democrat.

I find folks occasionally arguing that the ACA shitting the bed is how we get to a single payer system as frustrating as those who take the most substance-free outlier comment about Obama or excoriating the ACA roll-out and then hang it on all dissenting voices as representative of them as a whole.

If the ACA shits the bed, every fiber of my being tells me that it might be decades before we get that single payer shot, not sooner.

So, yes, Cassandra was right, as always, about Democratic arrogance and stupidity and thinking that refusing to make an argument is an alternative form of making an argument against Movement Conservatism.

    But now we own this.

    We gotta make it work.

I am a Loco-Foco. I am from the Elizabeth Warren wing of the Democratic Party.

    •  Maybe you own it (8+ / 0-)

But I stood with the CPC to kill the bill.   And I blame Kucinich for caving.   If they had stood their ground,  when they went to conference,  there either would have been a public option or Medicare for all.   There were 53 votes for it but Obama was blocking it.   All they had to do was sit tight and Obama would have dropped his opposition because he wanted his signature legislation and no way would he veto his own bill.

People like Markos shit the bed.   People,  no offense,  like you shit the bed.   Now you own it.   I do not.   It will not work because it's not designed to work for anyone but the insurance companies.   We warned everyone here loudly and daily.   We were shouted down and ridiculed.

then we -- the hippy-punched -- are the bed.

Are there any "national security" diaries up?  I need to vent my "white privilege" . . .

or disowning it -- may be our only salvation.  Owning it is to identify with the discredited Party establishment.  What if voters sour on that "scaaaaary Republicans are 15% worse than we are" canard we're still being force-fed?
