  •  Well, that point is not to LET THEM (21+ / 0-)

get away with that pivot.  And I disagree that they've really changed, it's just gone from "ObamaCare Sucks Because of Death Panels" to "ObamaCare Such Because it Destroys Jobs", to "ObamaCare Sucks Because You'll Lose Shitty Insurance", to "ObamaCare Sucks Because They'll Steal Your Identify" to "ObamaCare Sucks Because They'll Steal Your Private Health Information", to "ObamaCare Sucks because YOU CAN'T GET IT".

The response of course is ObamaCare Doesn't Suck for Millions of Americans, which covers all of those points.

    •  I look forward to concrete suggestions (9+ / 0-)

on how we can "not let them get away with that pivot" when they own all of the media outlets, and when the people we really need to reach are firmly sealed in their news bubbles.  The GOP has, in fact, already gotten away with that pivot, as I described.

We need to accept the reality that we will never reach these people.  We also have to accept that we don't have to.  They are isolated, so let them be isolated.  Their numbers shrink every year.  They will do damage, yes, but their power wanes.  We need to be patient, accept the good the ACA will do, and stop crowing about the demise of the GOP, which hasn't happened and won't happen because of this.

      •  I agree some are beyond reach... (8+ / 0-)

and I even say so in the diary.  I expect many will do as the example Rep I show have done and just continue to spout talking point after talking point after talking point - but as shown in that example A Freaking CNN REPORTER wouldn't let her get away with it after contrasting statements from the Governor of Kentucky.  That is how you not let them get away with such Bullshit, Call Them On It.  If not in person, in print, on the air, in blogs such as these.  Don't. Give. Them. An. Inch. EVER!

        •  Understood. I admire your fighting spirit, but (2+ / 0-)

I am either more cynical or just have seen this too many times in my life.  I am not disagreeing with you that we need a proactive approach, but we seem to differ on the expected effectiveness of such an approach.

Your CNN example is a fine and hopeful one, but I think it will remain the exception rather than the rule.  In general, calling the GOP out on this blog, or on Salon, or the pages of the Atlantic Monthly or Mother Jones or even on Rachel Maddow or The Daily Show is wonderful, but it's preaching to the converted.  Everyone else has ossified into a voting bloc that will never change their habits.  Ever.  They will never see, or understand, what has occurred because as many times as the veil is lifted from their eyes, there is always a new veil being spun to take its place.  (Obamacare will kill your grandma.  Okay, it won't, but it'll take away your freedom.  Okay, it won't, but it's a path to socialism.  Okay, it isn't, but your costs will go up.  Okay, they won't, but you'll be forced to drop your current plan.  Okay, you won't, but it'll force doctors to flee the country.  Okay, it won't, but it'll force business owners to give birth control to sluts.  Okay, it won't, but it'll force you to have an abortion against your will.  Okay, it won't...)  A negative cannot be proven in general, and to these people in particular because they have been trained for years and years to be paranoid and fearful.

All we can do is continue to make layers of pearl around the irritating grain of sand, shutting them out and isolating them and hopefully dulling as much mischief (voter supression, etc.) as we can.  Unfortunately, the pearl (make that hairball) that is the modern GOP will be with us for a long time to come.  They may fade in relevance, but they will remain a solid bloc, and dangerous, for a long time yet.

It's just gone from "Obamacare sucks because of death panels" to "ObamaCare sucks because YOU CAN'T GET IT."
