  •  That's truly horrifying (0+ / 0-)

I will look into it, both for personal and political reasons.

Truly, why are we asking anyone to shop blindly for a product that costs thousands of dollars a year?

Also, why is the government subsidizing private insurers yet not imposing price controls on them? Seems to me the feds have issued a blank check to Hartford.

    •  You apparently aren't clear on how this works. (0+ / 0-)

The insurers are limited to 15% gross profits on their group insurance plans, and 20% gross profits on their individual plans.  If they make gross profit over those amounts (which they have done for many, many years), they have to return the excess to the policy holders.

Keeping people out of ERs for minor illnesses will hold down health care costs.

Providing the means for individuals to seek medical attention that's covered by their insurance plan means that treatable minor illnesses will be addressed before they become major illnesses, again holding down health care costs.

But of course, those who are looking for things to bitch about can always manufacture them.  We see that here every day ... often by the same people ... over and over.

btw, thousands of dollars?  With the subsidy my son's getting, his annual cost out of pocket will be less than a grand.
