taking any shot at Romney, but just use the actual facts. In addition, the shot was primarily at his accountants with numbers made up out of thin air. The problem with this kind of tongue in cheek commenting here at DKOS is that many of the people who read this type of comment actually believe the data is factual. I recalled that Romney's return showed that he had income of about $15 million, and I know that no individual, not Bill Gates or Warren Buffet, has a $25 million bill for tax preparation. However, there are lots of people here who would believe those crazy numbers. The Internet is an echo chamber of misinformation, and this is how some of it is started.

    •  The shot was at his lawyers, not accountants. (7+ / 0-)

And it was about what they charged ... not about what Romney paid them annually. That's the strawman you constructed!

If you're so concerned with "here at DKOS is that many of the people who read this type of comment actually believe the data is factual" then maybe you, yourself, need to stick to the facts.

Romney's tax matters. PWC has tax lawyers on staff as well as CPAs. They also use some outside experts for some of Romney's tax issues. The Boston Globe estimated that over the course of a single tax year as many as 50 lawyers and accountants touch some part of Romney's return. Some people use a law firm to handle their tax matters and some use accounting firms. Romney uses PWC, which is one of the big four accounting firms in the US and has an exceptional tax practice to which I can personally attest. I can assure you that no one was ever billed $25 million for preparing the return of someone who had $14 million of income, regardless if they were a law firm or an accounting firm. In fact there is no individual taxpayer in the US who pays $25 million a year for tax preparation.

My experience is that if you don't pay what PWC charges you they stop working. So I assume, given the decades old relationship between PWC and Romney, that he pays what they charge.
