    how someone can say

    "to their credit"
when they actually mean "to their discredit".  The secrets in the sauce.
    •  Oregon Girl - one of the goals of the Obama (0+ / 0-)

campaign was to paint Romney's foreign accounts as something bad and unpatriotic. It was a very good strategy, and they executed it well.

I personally know that having foreign accounts is legal, ethical, and common for people who work in the investment management field. But most people find them highly suspicious and somehow equate foreign with illegal and the Obama campaign did a great job of playing on that perception. As they say "politics ain't beanbag".

        that matters, of course.

but for what ends, in the tax context.

as you well know. and Willard's pr gaffs certainly didn't help.

        •  Willard, and his campaig, made many mistakes (0+ / 0-)

a few of them fatal. The President ran a very good campaign with a minimum of mistakes.

            •  I didn't thanks for the tip (0+ / 0-)

Given Romney's average level of annual income at $10-20 million/year it is inconceivable that he didn't pay income taxes for ten years. I could imagine that he didn't pay income tax for a single year. I could think of a set of circumstances where one year he had fewer realized gains and a big tax loss carry forward, but no way that he didn't pay any federal income tax for ten years. It's not possible.

      •  of course it's legal (0+ / 0-)

        Look who makes the laws!

That does NOT make it ethical to take from a country -- say, the U.S. -- it's infrastructure, including labor, and refuse to pay your taxes on it.
