Thank you.  I do exactly as you suggested - have an excellent accountant and utilize every vehicle for reducing income with pretax accounts, etc.  This figure I obtained is from my filed 2012 taxes, which is what will be used to calculate eligibility for a subsidy this year.  So in 2015 year, because of the increased expenditure for insurance premiums in 2013 and assuming my situation remains relatively static, my adjusted gross will be less.  A better solution would be to earn a lot more money! :-) In looking over the comments just now, it appears there is another 61 year old woman who is experiencing exactly the same situation.  Like her, I blame the insurance companies; they couldn't wait to get rid of excellent plans in order to charge more for inferior plans.   I do not feel anyone was looking out for this particular group of insureds.  I was ok,  content to keep my plan, knowing I was still paying more than a lot of people with subsidies, so learning my plan would be cancelled was a shock.  The other very bad thing Blue Shield is doing in my county, is offering only EPO's for individually insured with a vastly reduced subset of doctors in the network.  They still haven't even released a list of which doctors will be in this new subset. If we go out of this small group of providers, there is zero coverage.  The kicker is that Blue Shield is still offering a PPO, with the large provider network and out of network coverage, to people who get their insurance through their employers.  So, I feel doubly victimized.

I'm sorry to hear of the way this is playing out for you (and others). I hope we'll ultimately be nudged further down the road to single payer, because private insurance is a truly dreadful model for providing health care, as you've so amply illustrated.

    •  Your state must have some sort of (0+ / 0-)

insurance commissioner or someone to whom you can and should complain. And get others you know to do the same.

Start calling the highest person in BXBS and start complaining.

Are they the only insurers available?

I'm asking you to believe. Not in my ability to bring about real change in Washington ... *I'm asking you to believe in yours.* Barack Obama
