  •  I have not read the book (6+ / 0-)

But speaking as someone who has read dozens of books on slavery and on the antebellum period in the South in college, it was extremely faithful to the work of historians, which kind of blew me away. There were moments where I was actually explicitly reminded of certain passages from certain books. How lucky we are that the most honest non-documentary historical film that I know of is a film on slavery. Usually I cringe during historical films set in periods I am familiar with. Spielberg's "Lincoln" had me rolling my eyes throughout.

And what a great idea! Voting cookies! I might actually do that next year!

Time is of no account with great thoughts, which are as fresh to-day as when they first passed through their authors' minds ages ago. - Samuel Smiles
