the more thankful I was that you posted the info on the 2011 and 2010.  Now I can feel really confident that this was not a one year typo by ALEC or a slip.  It is an intentional statement that they have repeated yearly.  That's important.  Thanks!

They will try to defend themselves by saying they meant "LIMITED representative democracy", not "LIMITED REPRESENTATIVE democracy" as we're alleging.

(The latter meaning that even our weak tea of representation is watered down, not that the government is limited in its power.)

The way to counter their defense is to dig into the huge, widespread and unifying meme of the Far Right that "America is a republic, not a democracy."  You will find that meme repeated by libertarians, neo-Confederates, gun nuts, and Christian Dominionists.  Most Americans have no idea what this means because they don't know how few people were allowed to vote in pre-1792 republics.  Combined this meme with "original intent", and you can bring back every restriction on the franchise that ever existed.  We have to tie ALEC to those extremists.

In the first presidential election, there were only 38,800 voters.  Less than 1% of Americans.  THAT'S what they mean by all their nostalgic code phrases and dog whistled.  They want that back.
