  •  I think it perhaps is hurting the administration (4+ / 0-)

because it invites speculation.  And the speculation that the media is picking up is tending to be negative -- perhaps more negative than the actual numbers are.  I think the speculation is only going to be ended by official numbers.

    •  Bingo. I wish the HHS Dept. would post (6+ / 0-)

...detailed, comprehensive numbers on a weekly (not monthly) basis--EVEN if those numbers are shitty at first--specifically in the name of transparency.

Plus, that makes the increasing numbers all the more dramatic as time goes on.

      •  I agree with monthly numbers (6+ / 0-)

at least initially. We all know that the malfunctioning website was a huge bottleneck, and that this depressed the sign-up numbers.

Actually, it wasn’t just the federal site; also some of the state-run exchanges were having significant technical issues.

Weekly numbers? That might have value later, say, in January.

And at that point the narrative can me phrased very differently: "Obamacare is a success in all these states, in most of the country. Why are those Republican-controlled states lagging behind? What are the politicians and bureaucrats there doing to obstruct the law? Why are they making obstacles and preventing their citizens from getting affordable insurance?"

Then the pressure will be on the obstructionists.

Moreover, the millions of people who were prevented from getting affordable insurance or sign up for the expanded Medicare program, because their governor denied them the opportunity, can be encouraged to express their outrage on the mid-term Election Day in 2014.

I’m really looking forward to that!
