  •  VA-Gov: on the Quinnipiac polls (11+ / 0-)

Q has polled VA-Gov now FOUR times in the final month before the election.

    They've had McAuliffe from 45 to 47.

    They've had Cuccinelli from 39 to 41.

    This is all margin-of-error movement.

But that previous poll said 45-41, so Team Red gets all excited.

It was foolish, the polls just show TMac winning, the margin just margin-of-error movement.

doesn't say anything about the downballot races, though there's not much reason to suppose this to be much different from what others are saying (tight race for AG, Dem landslide for LG.)

It appears that the last batch of polls seem to be converging at about a 6-7 point lead for McAuliffe, which seems to be at the midpoint of the flood of polling over the last week or so, and probably more believable, given the images of the candidates and their parties, than either a runaway near-landslide for McAuliffe or Cuccinelli making it a near toss up.  The Sarvis vote may or may not drop on election day due to concern over "wasting" votes, but even if it does it doesn't really significantly affect the overall result.

IIRC, it's been about four months since any polling showed Cuccinelli leading, and at least two months since most reliable polls have even shown a near-tie.
