  •  I screwed up my life (8+ / 0-)

When I was in my 20's.  I stayed away from any extended family gatherings after that, even though my circumstances improved greatly and I did not appear in any way "strange" to the casual observer.  But I know that at least one relative always gave my parents endless grief about my being a failure, her boys were perfect and made loads of money, ended up Republicans who only cared about everything you stated above.

I never felt I should appear around extended family again, since I had failed, I should stay away.  My sister kept going while our Dad was alive, but between the rigidly religious cousins and the big earning better than thou cousins, she just ended up disliking everyone; even though she herself is presentable.

Your diary is true, I tend to despise the idea of "family", since I'm the screw up who became un-presentable, but maybe what I hate isn't actually "family"?

Manufacturing outrage; the only manufacturing jobs Republicans won't outsource.
