    It's beautiful.

Which leads me to wonder, Jim, have you tried to determine who those witnesses were?  Maybe they have a connection that could lead you to George's Carroll Co origins.

One of the witnesses is Elijah Stull which sounded familiar. Oh yeah, he's the guy George was drilling the well for when he died! How's that for coincidence?

Wait... does that look like an F. for the middle initial on the certificate? Or is that something else. If not the same person, they were probably father/son.

Can't really read the name of the other one Emma ???go

        It must be lunchtime.

        No, not Hoagie.

Hmm.  That initial could be an 'F' or a 'T'.

The first letter of Emma's last name could be an 'F' or 'T', too.

        But they look different letters.

If I were to make a wild stab at this point, I'd say Elijah gets the 'T' and Emma gets the 'F' which looks more like the 'F' in the county "Frederick" written on the lower right side of the cert.

Made me think of Ima Hogg :-)

Thanks, I'll have to look around for the Elijah Stulls. See how the one in the newspaper article is related to George's wedding witness (Best Man?)

It'll be interesting to see where Elijah came from.  If these two families have known each other for a long time and even traveled from Carroll to Frederick together (I've had "family packs" do that before), you may be in luck.
