  •  There's been lots of people comparing ENDA to VAW (0+ / 0-)

Some people have been comparing the ENDA case to the Violence Against Women Act. That bill also seemed that it was DOA in the House but ultimately came up for a vote, where it passed with a large chunk of Democratic votes. Leader Pelosi and other House Democrats' seem to be thinking that if they put enough heat on the House leadership, the same thing will happen with ENDA.

In my opinion, I don't think the two cases are exactly the same. Firstly, VAW wasn't a new law like ENDA; it had previously passed with unanimous consent and should have been uncontroversial, but the House GOP decided that they wanted to make women hate them even more. Secondly, not everyone in the House GOP leadership were happy with the hold-up on the VAW; I remembered reading that Cathy McMorris-Rodgers got fed up with Boehner and co. and pushed them to finally let VAW get a vote. Does anyone honestly believe that Ryan (I-want-to-run-for-president-in-2016) and Walden (Damn-I-have-to-contend-with-a-primary-challenger) will do the same?
