  •  It's very simple really. (7+ / 0-)

Republicans are hooked on power and power, to be felt, has to hurt. Nobody considers someone who does good to be powerful.
So, if politicians seek to deprive people of rights, they're merely doing what they set out to do. Every hurt person is an achievement.
How can they be restrained? Fortunately or unfortunately, reining in public servants is a public responsibility. Citizens who promote predators into public office, whether it's to get them out of their back yard or conscious meanness, need to be called out. The people who flock to grovel at the feet of R.Ted Cruz, for example, need to be shamed. In this day and age, unlike even as recently as the era of George Wallace and J. Edgar Hoover, there is no excuse for people not knowing they're keeping an attack dog to scare the neighbors. That's offensive behavior, even if they themselves don't lift a hand.

It is good that Senator Reid is speaking out. When authority stands silent in the face of abuse, it becomes complicit.
When Democrats refer to abusers as "friends" their sincerity is pretty much shot. Friends that abuse the public are not worth having. Denying medical care is not a principled stand, unless it's Satan that's getting impatient.
