  •  In Indiana (10+ / 0-)

I lived there in 2004-05 when they were still debating whether to join the DST thing -- the governor (R) claiming that going to DST (and joining the Eastern time zone instead of being split) would jump-start the economy and bring in prosperity and all that. The older rural/small town people, OTH, referred to Standard Time as "God's time", or sometimes "cow time."

The point of it used to be, I think, to make sure that during the summer, during WWII, people could work a full day in the factories or offices and still come home and put in an hour in their Victory Gardens. Then the justification changed to something about the safety of children walking home from school, back when children still did that, and leaving aside the question of walking to school in the dark.

In other words, it's all pretty arbitrary, there are arguments to be made in all directions, we might well not set it up this way if we were starting from scratch, but getting up the energy to change it distracts from other issues that matter more.

DST in my can of Canada Dry Wink™ grapefruit soda once. While that stuff always made me hiccup, each time I hiccupped that day, the channels changed on the tv.

      And it wasn't even on.
