All the support people in NOVA were affected by the shutdown, too.
The restaurants and food trucks, and other small businesses in my neighborhood had very little business during the shutdown.
Food trucks were down to two or three for the duration.
I never saw any cleaning staff at night at the Department of the Interior offices across the street from my apartment.
These support people are the ones who can least afford no pay for a couple of weeks.
Plus, unlike the government employess, they didn't have back pay guaranteed for them.
