that I only learned last week (from Jeopardy no less) that Francis is a Jesuit.  That explains a lot about his papacy.  The Jesuits are the vanguard of reasoned catholic thought.  It is heartening to see a pope who holds the fundamental precepts of RC so dearly- do unto others and judge not.

      I must be dreaming...

and my dad almost became a Franciscan friar before he left to join the Navy in WWII.  I recently went online to check on whether there had been any sexual predators reported at Prep during the time I was there; there is an officially acknowledged list of dozens of priests and brothers over the years from that school who were either convicted or have overwhelming evidence of sexual predation against them - and about 20 of them are from the era when I attended, but didn't include one that I personally knew to be, at the very least, a locker room voyeur (I was never physically abused personally).

I once asked my dad before he died whether there was any sexual predation going on at his seminary (St Andrews in Santa Barbara).  He said that his Prior invited him to become a "special" seminarian but that he declined and then volunteered for the Navy shortly thereafter.  Then just last month my sister sent me a book written by a friend of hers who was a seminarian there, a book which documents a horrific reign of terror by the priest in charge of "discipline" there during the 60s (when I was at Prep).

This pope has actually enabled sexual predators since he's been pontiff. All this "openness" shit is just that, a sheen of populism to elicit the very responses that this diary represents.  He will ask your opinion then pat you on the head as he continues the current pathological Catholic paradigm.

This "survey" is being administered by the bishop corps.  The US Bishops are just as reactionary as they were when Benedict was in charge.  Francis has heaped praise on Benedict in his retirement.  This is just PR, folks.  Francis is to Catholicism as Obama is to Liberalism: he makes hopeful noises and acts otherwise.
