    "It's the economy, stupid" still applies even though the GOP likes to divert people with distractions to get them to vote against their economic self-interest. The good news is that some of their distractions don't work so well anymore. Marriage equality, abortion, and "Second Amendment Rights," for example, are less potent, but the GOP will still use them to peel off some voters who should be with us on economic issues.

      But it won't do us any good if we treat things like marriage equality and DADT repeal as though they were big-ticket policy items.  They're not.  They are incredibly small-bore.  The only reason the 1% doesn't stand in the way is because it doesn't affect their bottom line.  

      Real reform requires things like true universal healthcare; infrastructure repair, upgrades and maintenance;  fair labor policies and practices;  regulation of food, drugs and consumer products....etc.  Basically, all the things we are not getting now.

      Shirley Chisholm was right. Our Republic is in deep trouble.
