    but a little compassion? It goes a long way, and it creates success.

    Look. Millions of Americans put their children in the care of public school teachers every day. I think they have an obligation. Most of them meet it, but occasionally, people don't. That doesn't mean public education doesn't work, it means it's not perfect.

    I have been a public school teacher. My father's first job was as a school teacher in the Roxbury neighborhood of Boston. My cousin is a public elementary school teacher. My brother has an ed degree from Harvard and continues to teach. My mother, although technically retired, is still teaching nursing school.

    In my family, we take this shit seriously. I wish the detractors of public education would do the same.
