  •  So if one of his followers (5+ / 0-)

is hit by a drunk driver it's still their own damned fault because they didn't pray enough to keep the other car at bay? It's beyond sick to suggest something like that; it's extremely cruel and horribly abusive.

      fear-based preachers approach everything.

Anything bad that happens is automatically the fault of the person who didn't live right enough. Remind you of anything?
(Like, the way the world turns against a survivor reporting sexual assault?)

The Catholic Church has apparently elevated somebody with a different mindset to the highest office in their church. Good for them. May he live long, prosper -- and lead them well, toward a greater generosity and understanding of all humanity.

Yet it's tough for me to believe that anybody of Osteen's (or Graham's or Robertson's or Bakker's or Tilton's, just as examples) ability to milk millions out of the faithful ... isn't working opposite the spirit of Christ, as I've been given to understand that spirit. Megachurch = giant con, if not outright cult.

    •  I was so disgusted I went to the website (0+ / 0-)

for his organization and tried to get a transcript (at that time you could get the recordings by number), but I couldn't identify the number assigned to that sermon and they also wanted you to pay for them. So I left an email comment and never heard back.

I think it's criminal to tell people who hang on your every word that some superstitious activity can change the course of occurances in the natural world.  Of course, since so many people use prayer in that exact way, it wasn't hard for Joel to make this leap of argument.
