  •  Even McCain voted yes (14+ / 0-)

That shocked me. The usual suspects, including both Rubio and Raphael Jr., not to mention Mr. Graham of SC (whose closet is jam-packed, from what I hear), voted no of course, and this has no chance in the House, but it's good nonetheless. We have the Senate, by a near 2/3 majority, saying it's not right to fire someone because of who they love.

The gay rights juggernaut continues on - woo hoo!

    •  It is not accurate to say that this has no chance (8+ / 0-)

in the House. As with a number of other issues where Republicans are not entirely unified, there is the possibility of a Discharge Petition, which to Boehner would be even worse than just caving and allowing the vote.

We are looking forward to having this discussion on the Senate immigration bill, too, and on budgets, and possibly on a new Voting Rights Act at some point. The public has been shifting in a more Progressive direction at about 1% annually on all of the major issues, and a shift of a few points each time in the 2014 mid-terms, the 2016 Presidential season, and beyond will bring the issues into our reach one after another.
