that his firing had more too it than the article.  Yes, it is complete speculation on my part, but as Bob more or less put it in another comment, the article was too mild for there to be this level of alleged uproar.  The level of uproar being the excuse given for firing, hence I have to wonder what is it we're not being told.

a good spin on this, just pointing out the obvious business issues. In print magazines are facing extinction and the last thing Guns and Ammo needs to do is alienate its current subscribers.

      "let's talk about that"

      •  s/he's trying to make it sound like there is some (0+ / 0-)

pre-planned subterfuge here, beyond he published something subscribers objected to and got canned for it

        •  Was this "published" - or posted? (0+ / 0-)

Published, means everyone from copy writers, to the managing editor blocked-space, set type, proofed, and sent this to print.

If Metcalf (who's had a similar issue of not being on-message before) posted this to the G&A Facebook page, or the G&A blog, or to some other blog hosted by another person, organization or publication?
Then I'd say:  No managerial culpability, and he's of this opinion solely and independently.

The Editor, can "edit" and change any word or sentence to suit his/her editorial opinion.  Claim "for clarity" - and be "blameless".

Here's an example of editorial action, and I'm not bothering to read Guns & Ammo.
(Which I deemed a worthless publication, "writing" what the gun manufacturers released as PR glossys, back in the '80s)

          Original, as-written by the gunwriter/gun writer/gun-writer:

Responsible gun owners, must act responsibly to continute to enjoy Second Amendment protections, or lose them in the legislative process.
Gee Dick, that's sort of cumbersome.  Written above our readership.
Responsible gun owners must demonstrate responsible action, to a Licensing Authority.
We, or Congress, will enact a national standard of training.
We, or Congress will determine the when and where of concealed carry; the where and why of acceptable firearms use.
It's that, or the repeal of the Second Amendment.
You as readers, have to choose.
          It's on you.
Firearms use is way out of control.
For Guns & Ammo, I'm Dick Metcalf.
          Fixed. Way better.
Dick?  Why do you look so pale Dick?
          It's your byline.
I was just helping.  Doing my job.
