Democrats are afraid to change the filibuster rule in case they ever need it. And, if the GOP takes over the senate in 2014, we can see why that fear is real.

EXCEPT, that IF the GOP takes over the senate in 2014, THEY will do what Reid wouldn't do, first order of business. THEY will make the filibuster unavailable to Democrats who want to fight their power, and they won't blink twice doing it.

These senate rules are not like the constitution, they can be changed and voted upon according to the party in power. IMO, the democrats have been a bunch of pansies regarding this, I'm looking at you Harry Reid, Barbara Boxer, and others, who seem to think they're re-writing the constitution or the declaration or rights when it comes to the filibuster, when it's really only protecting yourself from a bunch of extremists and obstructionists who won't hesitate to pull the plug on you if they ever get their hands on the power you now hold.

To me, this boils down to arcane, outdated and clubby senate rules that ONLY Democrats seem to care about. Comes a time to fight fire w/fire, and the Democrats have their paws caught in molasses trying to figure this out.
