  •  Precisely. Keep the sequester untouched. (2+ / 0-)

That it causes pain is irrelevant, since any alternative Republicans would support would cause much more pain, while throwing money at people who shouldn't have it, starting with the war machine.

    •  Sequester must end (0+ / 0-)

As someone who works for a Head Start program I'm appalled by comments like this one. If these cuts persist they will begin to seriously degrade services to poor children. It's easy for middle class activists to crow about political advantages,  but these cuts fall heavily on poor families. I like social security too, but don't see why benefits to middle class retirees are so sacrosanct while food stamps, WIC, child care funding, community development funds, and other programs which primary benefit the poor are not. We expected Democrats would stand up for us, and they haven't.

      •  Democrats aren't a majority in the House. (0+ / 0-)

No amount of "standing up" matters at present.  Republicans want a budget that's worse for Head Start that it would be worse that sequester, and it's not like Democratic concessions about SS would get a better deal for Head Start.

Worse for Head Start than it would be under sequester, I mean.
