  •  Ok, three things about lies. (14+ / 0-)

    1) it is not possible to lie about the future.

    2) lies can be proved to be false, but the truth cannot be proved to be true. As we eliminate lies, we end up with the truth. So, in a sense, lies contribute to the truth and that is why we tolerate them.

    3) falsehoods can be intentional or accidental. So, not all lies are morally reprehensible. They may be the result of ignorance or faulty perception. HOWEVER, the half-truth is an exception, especially when it is propagated as if it were the whole truth. Then the intent is almost certainly to deceive. The people whom we refer to as Cons are sly and intent on deception and, consequently, routinely deploy half truths to lie. For their lies there can be no excuse.

Think of the fox who tells the crow that the grapes are sour and not good to eat because he's waiting for them to be fully ripe and drop into his mouth and wants to deter the crow from getting any at all. That's the mentality of the GOP.
