  •  Yeah, a car can be a deadly weapon (10+ / 0-)

And when you use it to attack police officers expect them to respond in kind.

It's a tragedy that someone's dead but I don't get the outrage. This stupid kid chose to drive recklessly through city streets and a college campus and ram police cars multiple times.

    Sometimes Darwin wins out.

Look, I tried to be reasonable...

I tell my kids that police will use any excuse to shoot.  Even if you just look at them the wrong way.  They see everyone as a criminal and absolutely have no clue how to handle people with mental problems.

Run at high speed through city streets ramming police vehicles at every opportunity? In an effort to escape these hooligan cops?

Pfft, i feel for the father but once the boy began assaulting with a deadly weapon (vehicle) there was little chance this was going to end well.

Honesty may be the best policy, but it's important to remember that apparently, by elimination, dishonesty is the second-best policy.

Jesus, I just don't get people that think this way about all cops.  I know some cops and work indirectly with some, and have had the occasional experience with them (like being stopped and questioned in my own apartment parking lot by an officer once because someone had reported suspicious person in the area (not me)).

In all of my encounters with police, the vast majority have been decent human beings.  There has been an occasional asshole that was full of himself, but that is no different that the rest of human population.  As a matter of fact, just today I witnessed a conversation with an officer I know and a citizen who recognized him as playing Santa Claus at a Christmas event last year and he remembered her young son hugging him.  What a total bloodthirsty prick, right?  I know another officer who worked off-duty as Santa at a local mall, and who once had a couple of truant teenagers stop by to harass Santa with liquor on their breath.  Santa quietly explained to them that he was actually an off-duty officer and would be perfectly capable of having them dealt with by authorities for being truant and underage drinking, but in the Christmas spirit wasn't going to do that as long as they'd promise him they'd get their butts home and get back in school the next day.

Wow.  Can't you just feel the raging barely controlled bloodlust there?
