    persuasion having a happy ending! i didn't proofread my comment very good & meant to say, " . . . that's why her novels are usually lighthearted (with the possible exception of persuasion) & have happy endings."

    i read somewhere that jane austen supposedly modeled frederick wentworth on her brother, francis, but i don't know if she modeled fw's personality on him, or just the fact that he was in the navy. i didn't like anne elliot that much, either.
