Although you are probably singing to the choir here, I hope you have convinced some Kossacks who might otherwise have gone out into the pre-dawn Thanksgiving Day darkness to score a bargain to stay home, sleep in a little before the turkey has to go into the oven and enjoy what is still a fall holiday for many of us.

I don't get much for my little covey of friends--a few stocking stuffer-like oddments--but what I do buy I shop for online months before the arrival of the Solsticial Season of Cheer. I wrap the gifties a week or so before the actual Yuletide Day just to get into the spirit and then I am done. I am family-less--no spouse, offspring, in-laws or other relations--so I can enjoy the quieter parts of the season.

As I do every year, I wish I could spend December in a country where they had never heard of Christmas. I would celebrate a private holiday of my own on January 2nd (it's all over and normalcy can return!), then I would enter stasis until March 12th, three days before I plant the first Asian greens in the greenhouse.
